Are you relocating to the Dallas area and thinking of buying a home? Or perhaps you already live here and are a first-time home buyer? Either way, you are going to want to know which real estate websites to use when you search for your new home.
The Dallas area and most of North Texas State are covered by the North Texas Real Estate Information System (NTREIS) database. Local real estate agents list properties for sale in the NTREIS database, and those listings are then made available on the websites of any broker who is a member of the NTREIS. When searching for a home, it is important that you utilize sites that are displaying data from the NTREIS. This will ensure that you are seeing listings from all of the local real estate brokers.
In some areas of the country, Zillow.com is a popular site to search for homes. Zillow.com updates its website from time to time and retrieves data from NTREIS database. But this is not consistent. Because of this, Dallas-area listings on Zillow.com are incomplete or do not show the latest listing status. If you are searching for homes in the Dallas we do NOT recommend using Zillow.com since you will be missing out on many of the homes for sale. Realtor.com is powered by the same database, and we make the same recommendation against using it.
There are many local sites showing all of the NTREIS listings. I have a few favorites, but there are likely more I haven’t tried.
Send us your favorite NTREIS site and we’ll add it to the list!
