M-STREETS REAL ESTATE

M-Streets is defined by area bordered by Mockingbird Lane, Greenville Avenue, Vanderbilt Avenue, and Central Expressway. Here you will find homes and cottages from 1920s and later in High Tudor, Spanish, and Craftsman architectureal style.  The area is known as the M Streets due to two major streets (McCommas and Monticello) and many of the minor streets starting with the letter M. Original details, such as stained glass windows, arches, and hardwood floors have been conserved in a lot of houses and a visit to this area feels like a walk down the history lane. Here each home possesses distinct facades and interiors replete with alcoves, mantels, ceramic tile work, hardwood floors and stained or leaded glass windows.

 

Built in the 1920's, originally known as Greenland Hills, the M Streets, represented a conscious attempt to create a quality residential development on the fringe of Dallas. Built on rolling hills, this plan incorporated strict architectural guidelines and well-conceived landscaping. This careful thought has culminated in fully grown trees, picturesque streets and the same pleasant environment that continues to attract, and retain, residents who appreciate the charm of this historic neighborhood.

 

Although, the majority of homes in the neighborhood (~920 houses) were built in the Tudor Revival style, in the late 1990s and early 2000s, several of the original homes were demolished and modern suburban homes began to take their place. Luckily, the Conservation District (approved in 2002) has put a stop to this practice. New construction is allowed, but it must match the style of the original homes.
